1. Divide class into two.
2. A half of the students are provided with “request cards” describing things they are looking for, such as “I overslept this morning and missed the bus to go to school” and “I got lost on the way to the shopping mall.”
3. Another half of the students are provided with “help cards” describing things they can offer, such as “I have a car” and “I have been to the shopping mall and know how to get there.”
4. The students with “request cards” ask students with “help cards” to find the person who can help their problems by using the expression “Would you please do (something) for me?” If the student with “help card” have the right “help,” the student use the expression “I can do (something) for you.”
5. Switch the role.
The advantage of this activity is 1) Every student has to speak; 2) I can use newly learned vocabulary to create request cards and help cards; and 3) The goal is clear (to find the right person to help the student solve the problem). Students seem to like it as they can move around.
